Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Each Finish 11th at Big South Championships

LILLINGTON, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's and women's cross country teams each took home 11th place finishes at the 2019 Big South Conference Cross Country Championships, ran this morning at the Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lillington, N.C.
Action began with the men's 8K race, in which Patrick Sastre led the Runnin' Bulldogs with a time of 28:59.1. Joe Waller followed with a time of 29:58.8. Mitchell Brown clocked in at 31:15.3, and rounding out the field for GWU were Matthew Cloninger at 31:38.8, Bogdan Podgaisky at 33:00.6, and Cole Ray at 35:09.4.
Athanas Kioko of Campbell was the individual champion, timing in at 23:30.7. The Camels were also the overall men's champions.
Sandra Bolstad led GWU in the women's 5K race, timing in at 20:44.4. Hannah Jones followed with a time of 21:14.6, and rounding out the field for the Runnin' Bulldogs were Faith Parandhamaia at 21:51.6, Courtney Kanetzke at 23:09.3, and Logan McGuirt at 23:24.3.
Famke Heinst of High Point was the individual champion with a time of 17:06.0. The Panthers also claimed the overall women's title.
Following the races, Bogdan Podgaisky and Hannah Jones were recognized as members of the 2019 Big South Cross Country All-Academic teams.
