
Adrienne Vesely Recognized as Big South Freshman of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Following two victories in the No. 5 singles flight, Adrienne Vesely was selected by the conference office as the first Big South Freshman of the Week for the 2019 women's tennis season this afternoon.
We're all very proud of Adrienne for her hard work," said head coach Jim Corn. "She displays a tremendous work ethic and is very passionate about the game of tennis. Adjusting to speed of the college game is not always easy, but she has adjusted very well and will continue to get better. This is a great honor for her and one that she is very deserving of."
Vesely (Plano, Texas / Spring Creek Academy) made her college debut against North Carolina A&T on February 6 and helped Gardner-Webb earn a 7-0 victory. Vesely defeated the Aggies' Kaya Ellis, 6-2, 6-3 in singles play and also won her doubles match with partner Milica Panic.
Vesely and Panic teamed up in the No. 3 flight and won a tightly contested match against Ellis and Kanishka Chawla, 7-5.
Three days later, the Runnin' Bulldogs played their second match of the year, another road contest, when they traveled to face off against the Davidson. Although the Runnin' Bulldogs were defeated, 6-1, Vesely accounted for Gardner-Webb's lone win in the match.
The Plano, Texas native defeated Davidson's Alyssa Hahn in two sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Through two matches, Vesely has won 24 games and allowed her opponents to win just 11.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, February 16 at North Carolina Central. First serve is set for 2 p.m. from Durham, N.C. The 'Dogs will play at home for the first time ths season when the Charlotte 49ers visit Boiling Springs on Thursday, February 21. The 'Dogs and 49ers will battle at 2 p.m.
