BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb picked up four decisions on the afternoon, but would fall to visiting Ohio by a 31-15 score in the final dual match of the season.
After each team earned a forfeit win to open the bout, Ohio took the matches at 141, 149, and 157 pounds to jump out to an 19-6 advantage.
Gardner-Webb began to battle back at 165 pounds, as
Tyler Marinelli edged out a tight 3-2 decision over Colt Yinger on a takedown in the final seconds to finish his final season unblemished in dual matches.
GWU also took the match at 174 pounds as
Kyle Homet defeated Logan Stanley, 10-7, to bring the 'Dogs within seven points at 19-12.
The Bobcats reclaimed control of the bout at 184 pounds, winning by fall to expand their lead to 25-12.
Anthony Perrine used a late takedown to his advantage in the 197-pound matchup, defeating Derek Hillman by a 3-2 decision.
The afternoon would wrap up at 285 pounds, where Ohio would take the bout by pin.
Gardner-Webb will now prepare for the 2019 SoCon Wrestling Championships, taking place on Sunday, March 10 in Boone, N.C.
