HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Gardner-Webb men's golf fired a third round score of 301 to finish ninth at the 2019 Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
The Runnin' Bulldogs started the day in a tie for fourth place in the team standings on the strength of a score of 294 on the second round of Monday's action.
Patrick Wu remained in the top-10 individually by the end of the tournament, carding a 73 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for eighth (74-71-73-218). Wu finished the 54-hole tournament with seven birdies, including six over the final 36 holes. He shot 1-under par over his final nine holes on Tuesday.
Stefan Smith finished Tuesday's round with a 74 and took a tie for 13th individually (+4) after 54 holes (72-74-74-220). Smith finished the tournament with eight birdies and was only two strokes behind Wu for the event.
Jonathan Henry (77-72-76-225),
Zack Byers (77-77-80-234) and Charlie Dallery (80-78-78-236) rounded out the scoring for Gardner-Webb over the two-day tournament, which was played on the 6,913-yard (Par 72) Wexford Plantation course.
Charleston Southern shot a three-round score of 876 to edge Furman by four strokes. Memphis (881), Winthrop (885), Davidson (886), Temple (886), High Point (888), Radford (893), Gardner-Webb (895) and host Francis Marion (905) rounded out the top 10.
The men's team will travel to Greenville, N.C., next, playing in the 2019 East Carolina Invitational on March 4-5.
