GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team opened its 2019 season with a dominant 7-0 win over the North Carolina A&T Aggies.
Gardner-Webb (1-0) began the match with a victory in the No. 2 doubles position with
Valentine Limauge and
Manon Delsol winning, 6-3.
Adrienne Vesely and
Milica Panic clinched the doubles point for the Runnin' Bulldogs with a 7-5 win in the No. 2 position.
Miljana Ristic and
Daniela Naupari won the third and final doubles match in the No. 1 flight, 7-6 (9).
Gardner-Webb swept all six singles match en route to the win.
North Carolina A&T's (0-5) Kaniska Chawla withdrew in the No. 6 position giving Panic her first victory as a Runnin' Bulldog. In the No. 2 flight, Nauapri surrendered just two games in two sets, defeating the Aggies' Angelica Martinez, 6-1, 6-1.
With her team up 3-0, Ristic cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 1 flight to clinch the match victory for Gardner-Webb.
Limauge, Vesely and Delsol also won matches to help Gardner-Webb sweep the Aggies, 7-0. Limauge, a two-time Freshman of the Week winner in 2018, began her sophomore campaign with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Renata Ruiz at No. 3
Vesley won her first collegiate match at No. 5, 6-2, 6-3, before Delsol concluded the match with a win at No. 4. Delsol defeated Marlene Destenssoro, 7-2, 7-6 (7).
The Runnin' Bulldogs will play their next two matches on the road beginning with an 11 a.m. first serve at Davidson on Saturday, February 9. Following the contest with the Wildcats, Gardner-Webb will travel to North Carolina Central (Feb. 16) before hosting Charlotte for its home opener on Thursday, February 21.
