Tyler Marinelli Named SoCon Wrestler of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Gardner-Webb redshirt senior Tyler Marinelli has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week, for matches taking place January 30-February 5, as announced by the SoCon office Wednesday afternoon.
Marinelli (Jefferson, Ga. / Jefferson HS) won both of his matches this past week in dominant fashion, defeating Drew Nicholson of Chattanooga by a 16-1 tech fall in 5:22, and a 9-1 major decision over Cameron Pine of Campbell.
For the season, Marinelli has an overall record of 20-2 and has an unblemished record of 10-0 in dual matches. He is currently ranked #20 in the nation at 165 pounds by both InterMat and The Open Mat.
Gardner-Webb returns to action this Saturday afternoon, hosting #16 Pittsburgh at 1:00 pm inside Paul Porter Arena, with live coverage on ESPN+.
