PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Gardner-Webb redshirt-senior Tyler Marinelli dropped a 3-1 sudden victory decision in the first round of wrestebacks at the 2019 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships Thursday evening, taking place at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa.
 
Marinelli made his second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships, qualifying after winning the 2019 Southern Conference title at 167 pounds.  He finishes the season with a 26-4 overall record.
 
In the first wrestleback round, No. 20 Marinelli took on No. 29 Nick Kiussis of West Virginia, in a tightly contested bout that was tied 1-1 at the end of three periods.  In the first overtime period, Kiussis earned a two-point takedown to claim the match.
 
Earlier today in the opening round, Marinelli dropped a 17-2 tech fall to No. 13 Andrew Fogarty of North Dakota State.
