Record Performances Recorded Throughout 2019 Terrier Relays

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's and women's outdoor track and field teams set several records this weekend, taking part in the 2019 Terrier Relays, hosted by Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs set 14 new personal records, two event records, and one GWU all-time record en route to 11 top-five finishes and three first-place finishes throughout the two-day event.
 
Natasha Akbarizadeh set a new Gardner-Webb record in the women's hammer toss with a distance of 63.16 meters, smashing the previous record of 60.26 meters, set by Akbarizadeh at the 2017 Big South Conference Championships.  Her mark is also a new Terrier Relays record.  Petra Jakeljic placed second with a distance of 59.02 meters, setting a new personal record that ranks third in the GWU record books.  Cailen Blaire finished sixth with a mark of 44.86 meters and Taliyah Wade finished 28th at 32.47 meters.
 
Chase Thornhill set a new Terrier Relays record in the men's 400-meter run, clocking in at 46.99 seconds to earn a first-place finish.
 
Louise Schmidtgen took home the women's pole vault title with a mark of 3.50 meters, setting a new personal record that also ranks in the top-10 in the GWU record books.
 
In the men's shot put, Julian Smallwood claimed a second-place finish with a toss of 16.31 meters, setting a new PR that ranks fifth in GWU history.  Nate Wonsley IV followed in third with a mark of 15.34 meters, a PR that ranks 10th in program history.  Kenny VanVorst placed 14th at 13.66 meters, setting a new PR.
 
Austin Evans finished second in the men's triple jump with a personal-best mark of 13.64 meters that ranks top-10 in the GWU record books.
 
Kenny VanVorst placed third in the men's hammer toss with a mark of 51.11 meters.  Julian Smallwood placed 16th with a distance of 39.69 meters, setting a new PR.
 
Khalilah Conway finished fourth in the women's 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 1:05.56.
 
Diviana Forrest placed fourth overall in the women's 200-meter dash, timing in at personal-best 24.87 seconds, which also ranks in the top-10 in the GWU record books.  Hannah Sparacio finished 19th at 26.22 seconds, setting a new PR.
 
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Austin Buzzard, Carlos Williams, Patrick Sastre, and Chase Thornhill finished fourth with a time of 3:23.93.  The grouping of Tre Evans, Sam Hermanns, Mitchell Brown and Bogdan Podgaisky finished 15th with a time of 3:41.28.
 
In the women's 800-meter run, Hannah Jones finished sixth with a personal-best time of 2:20.26.  Amy Turlington finished 11th at 2:22.47 to set a new PR and Sandra Bolstad finished 35th at 2:34.20.
 
Ezekiel Martin placed tenth in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking in at 10:36.97.
 
In the women's discus toss, Cailen Blaire finished 12th with a distance of 35.77 meters.  Taliyah Wade finished 19th at 32.38 meters.
 
Taliyah Wade finished 14th in the women's shot put with a toss of 11.19 meters.
 
Carlos Williams placed 16th in the men's 100-meter dash, timing in at 11.06 seconds.  Tre Carson finished 31st at 11.30 seconds in his first time in the event and Mason Marshall finished 53rd at 11.84 seconds.
 
The team of Amy Turlington, Hannah Jones, Sandra Bolstad, and Faith Parandhamaia placed 16th in the women's 4x400 meter relay, clocking in at 4:27.69.
 
In the men's 100-meter hurdles, Austin Evans timed in at 16.67 seconds to finish in 17th place.
 
Logan McGuirt took home an 18th place finish in the women's 5,000-meter run, clocking in at 21:21.43.
 
In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Austin Buzzard took home an 18th place result, timing in at 58.19 seconds to set a new PR.
 
Khalilah Conway finished 24th in the women's 100-meter hurdles, timing in at 18.84 seconds.
 
In the men's discus toss, Julian Smallwood placed 31st at 36.21 meters.
 
Maya Mallory placed 43rd in the women's 400-meter dash, timing in at 13.57 seconds.
 
In the men's 800-meter run, Sam Hermanns finished 43rd with a time of 2:07.71, setting a new PR.  Patrick Sastre placed 47th, clocking in at 2:10.25
 
Mitchell Brown finished 44th in the men's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:29.47.  Bogdan Podgaisky placed 55th, clocking in at 4:55.81.
 
In the women's 1,500-meter run, Faith Parandhamaia finished 53rd, timing in at 5:41.05.
 
Gardner-Webb returns to action in two weeks, taking part in the Charlotte Invitational, beginning Friday, April 12 in Charlotte, N.C.
