March 05, 2019 | Men's Tennis
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Following a perfect week at No. 1 singles and doubles and a pair of wins for the Gardner-Webb men's tennis team, Maximilian Scholl has been named the Big South Conference's Player of the Week.
Scholl joins Millen Hurrion as the second Runnin' Bulldog to earn Player of the Week honors from the conference this season.
To open the week, Scholl and Hurrion teamed up at No. 1 doubles and defeated UNCG's Ian Melnik and Roger Rogowski, 6-4. In singles play, Scholl took on Nico Grewe and won soundly, 6-3, 6-1.
Just days later against South Carolina State, Scholl and Hurrion once again were victorious by a 6-4 score in doubles. Scholl cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win over Juan Ramirez in the No. 1 flight. In two singles matches, the Stuttgart, Germany native outscored his opponents 24-7. The win over South Carolina State marked just the second time in 16 years that the Runnin' Bulldogs have defeated SCSU.
Next up, Scholl and the Runnin' Bulldogs will travel to Wofford for an afternoon contest with the Terriers on Thursday, March 7. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
