Gardner-Webb Women's Golf Finishes Ninth At 2019 Big South Championship

NINETY SIX, S.C. – Freshman standout Linnea Hofgren paced Gardner-Webb once again individually, and the Runnin' Bulldogs took ninth place at the 2019 Big South Conference Women's Golf Championship Saturday.
The tournament was once again held on the familiar Patriot at Grand Harbor course. Weather played a role in the event, but all teams finished on Saturday.
Gardner-Webb (325-313-314-952) finished one stroke in front of UNC Asheville. Campbell won the team title by 28 strokes over second-place High Point. No other team was within 25 strokes of second place.
Hofgren led Gardner-Webb for the second tournament in a row, shooting consecutive rounds of 74 over 36 holes and finishing with a 78 to sit just two strokes outside the top-10. Hofgren finished 12th, which put her three shots in front of junior Allison Chandler (75-78-86-229) in 15th.
Hofgren had the tournament's lone eagle and added seven birdies. Chandler ranked fifth among all golfers on Par 5 holes (-4) and led Gardner-Webb with eight birdies over 54 holes.
Lindsay Koppel (84-79-76-239) shot her lowest round of the weekend on Saturday to finish in a tie for 36th. Kristen Wong (92-82-84-258) and Morgan Laird (92-87-87-266) also competed for Gardner-Webb, finishing in 50th and 51st positions individually.
The average score for all rounds was 78.9 (+6) for the course this weekend.
Chandler earned a spot on the Big South Conference's All-Academic Team for 2019 in addition to her top-20 finish. She carries a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA in her major of accounting.
