RADFORD, Va. – The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team swept the bottom half of the singles lineup but fell to the Radford Highlanders, 4-3, in Big South Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Gardner-Webb (8-8, 4-3 Big South) lost the doubles point to Radford, but did win the top flight. After a loss at No. 3,

The Highlanders (10-8, 5-4 Big South) won at No. 2, 6-3, to take the early lead.
Adrienne Vesely, who is 12-1 overall and on a nine-match winning streak, recorded Gardner-Webb's first victory of the afternoon at No. 5 singles. A dominant 6-0, 6-1 victory over Katey Fruehauf helped even the score one match each. Vesely is now 5-1 in Big South Conference play.
Radford extended its lead to 3-1 with wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, but Gardner-Webb made it a 3-2 match thanks to
Manon Delsol's win in the No. 6 flight.
After earning a 6-4 win in the first set, Delsol shutout her opponent, Jeanine Acierto, in the final set to earn the victory and pull Gardner-Webb within one match of tying the contest.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were unable to tie the Big South match as Drousile Dzeubou defeated Naupari in the No. 2 flight to clinch the win for the Highlanders.
Before it was all said and done, however,
Mayumi Saguchi battled Tyler Blalock at No. 4 and won in three sets. Saguchi lost the first set but was not deterred by the deficit. She tied the match with a 7-5 triumph in the second set and allowed Blalock to win just two games in the final set, as she won, 6-2.
