Gardner-Webb Men's Golf Finishes Tied For 8th At 2019 River Run Collegiate

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Gardner-Webb finished in a tie for eighth place as a team Tuesday, shooting a 300 to cap the 2019 River Run Collegiate hosted by Davidson College.
The tournament, held again at the 7,317-yard (Par 72) River Run Club Course, featured 15 Division I men's golf teams and 13 more individual participants for three rounds Monday and Tuesday.
Gardner-Webb was led by senior Steffen Smith, who rallied with a final round of 72 to move up eight spots into a tie for 12th individually. Smith started his day with a birdie on No. 10 and moved to two-under with another birdie on the 15th – before a pair of bogeys.
Smith sandwiched a pair of key birdies around a tough double bogey on No. 6 to finish his day with an even 72. Smith shot a 70 to begin the tournament, before a second-round of 77 dropped him back to 20th individually before the start of the final round.
Jake Scruggs was consistent throughout the tournament, shooting three-straight rounds of 74 to finish in a tie for 21st (74-74-74-222). Zack Byers (74-77-79-230) finished tied for 55th, while Andy Yang (82-71-83-236) took a tie for 70th.
Freshman Peech Bunnadodee (87-78-75-240) finished the tournament in 80th position individually.
Miles Albright (76-77-75-228) competed as an individual and finished in a tie for 44th.
Gardner-Webb will be back in action on October 7-8 at the Musgrove Mill Intercollegiate, hosted by Presbyterian College.
