BUIES CREEK, N.C. –
Alexis Hueston scored a game-high 15 points, but the Runnin' Bulldogs shot just 28.6 percent from the floor as they dropped a 48-44 decision at Campbell in Big South Conference action Thursday night.
Gardner-Webb (7-7, 2-3 Big South) held a 44-43 lead over Campbell (9-5, 4-1 Big South) after a basket by Hueston with 2:07 left in the contest, but the baskets wouldn't fall for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the final minutes, missing their last seven attempts while the Camels scored five unanswered points at the free throw line to take the win.
Both teams struggled offensively throughout the evening, with Gardner-Webb going 16-of-56 (28.6 percent) from the floor, while holding Campbell to 18-of-53 (34.0 percent) for the night.
Hueston led all scorers with 15 points on a 6-of-18 outing. She also pulled down six boards and had a pair of blocks and steals.
Lauren Bevis followed with eight points off of the bench.
Kianna Speight led Campbell with 12 points, going 4-of-8 on the night, all from long distance.
Gardner-Webb returns home for its next contest, hosting Presbyterian at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm inside Paul Porter Arena, with live coverage on ESPN+.
