BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Gardner-Webb picked up the doubles point and five singles wins to earn a 6-1 win over visiting Western Carolina in women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon,
Gardner-Webb improves to 2-1 overall, while Western Carolina drops to 0-3 on the year.
Action began with doubles play, where a forfeit at the No. 3 spot gave GWU an early advantage. The duo of
Miljana Ristic and
Daniela Naupari defeated WCU's Jordan Strickland and Emily Elliott at the No. 1 spot, 6-3, to give the 'Dogs the doubles point, and the pairing of
Mayumi Saguchi and
Teodora Ristic defeated Jacy Smith and Lauren McCall, 7-5, at the No. 2 spot to give GWU the doubles sweep.
A forfeit by WCU at the No. 6 singles spot, followed by a quick win at the No. 3 position by Saguchi over Carli Deehr, 6-0, 6-0, gave GWU an early 3-0 lead.
Delsol sealed the overall win for the Runnin' Bulldogs at the No. 5 position with a 6-4, 6-1 win over McCall. That was followed by a 6-2, 2-6, 10-6 win at No. 1 by
Miljana Ristic and a 6-3, 4-6, 10-3 win by Limuage at No. 4 over Elliott.
Western Carolina's Strickland took the match at the No. 2 position, 1-6, 6-0, 7-6 (12) over
Teodora Ristic to wrap up the afternoon.
The Runnin' Bulldogs take the court next on Friday, February 7 at Elon. The match is set for a 2:00 pm start time.
