Track & Field Sets Many PRs at the VMI Indoor Classic

LEXINGTON, VA. – This Friday and Saturday (February 14th & 15th) Gardner-Webb Track and Field competed in the VMI indoor classic hosted by Virginia Military Institute.
 
In the men's weight throw, Josh Fischer placed fourth overall with a mark of 17.40 meters, marking a personal best and forth best overall in program history. Kenny VanvVorst placed sixth overall with a mark of 16.51 meters, marking a personal best and a ninth best overall mark in program history.
 
Austin Evans placed eighth overall in the men's triple jump hitting a mark of 13.76 meters.
 
For the women's pole vault, Randy Campbell hit a mark of 3.20 meters placing second overall.
 
In the women's elite pole vault, Louise Schmidtgen placed seventh overall with a mark of 3.35 meters, and teammate Karin Sastre placed eighth overall with a mark of 3.35 meters.
 
In the men's 400 meter dash, Levi Zimmer ran a 54.32 seconds marking a personal best for him
 
Shylee Stocks placed tenth in the women's 400 meter dash clocking in a 58.25 seconds, marking a personal best for her.
 
For the men's 1000 meters, Mitchell Brown ran a 2:50.86 taking 18th place overall and taking home a new personal best.
 
Sandra Bolstad placed 15th overall in the women's 1000 meter with a time of 3:18.60, which is a personal best for her, and a top seven time in program history.
 
In the men's long jump Ryan McGuffin took home first place by hitting a mark of 7.19 meters, this a second best mark in GWU program history, and a personal best for McGuffin.
 
Josh Fischer took home sixth place in the men's shot put with a mark of 15.86 meters, this is a personal best for Fischer and a fifth overall in the programs history. 
 
Matthew Cloninger ran a personal best in the one mile with a time of 4:49.71.
 
In the women's 60 meter hurdles, Callie Rhea ran a personal best of 9.46 seconds and placed 21st overall.
 
For the men's 60 meter hurdles, Ryan McGuffin ran a 9.23 seconds marking a personal best for him. 
 
Austin Buzzard ran a personal best in the men's 500 meter dash with a time of 1:09.27 taking 21st overall, and a 7thoverall time in program history.
 
The squad of Williams, Waller, Thornhill, and Sastre took home 9th place in the men's 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:33.20.
 
In the women's 4x400 meter relay, the squad of  Houser, Stocks, Parandhamia and Robinson took home 18th place with a time of 4:12.16.
 
Gardner-Webb Track and Field will be back in action on February 28th at the 2020 Big South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.
