Gardner-Webb Swimming Splashes Through the Competition on Day Three of CCSA Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Gardner-Webb men's and women's swimming teams continue to have impressive performances in the third day of the 2020 CCSA Championships, earning a pair of first-place finishes, along with setting a handful of new school records.
The men's team currently ranks second with 478 points, while the women are in fifth place with 483 points.
In the women's 100-yard butterfly, Jessi Snover placed third overall with a time of 54.32 seconds. In the C-Final, Audrey Robinson timed in at 56.94 seconds.
In the men's 100-yard butterfly, Cullen Fields tied for third place with a time of 47.58 seconds. Tim Bennett placed fifth, timing in at 47.86 seconds, Seggio Bernardina took seventh at 48.92 seconds, and teammate Brady Fields placed eighth with a time of 51.74 seconds. In the B-Final, Dowdy Sarvis led the way with a time of 48.61 seconds to place ninth overall. John O'Connell placed 15th with a time of 49.86 seconds.
Spencer Lucas placed fourth in the women's 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:23.55, followed by teammate Mary Traylor in fifth place with a time of 4:23.76.
In the men's 400-yard individual Medley, Chase Mattingly finished first with a program-record time of 3:53.52, finishing nearly three seconds faster than the runner-up.. Teammate Justin Conklin placed sixth overall with a time of 4:02.17.
In the women's 200-yard freestyle, Alyssa Church timed in at 1:53.35 in the B-Final, placing 14th overall. In the C-Final, Blake Broullire finished 19th with a time of 1:53.98.
Zach Dingfield brought home a second-place finish in the men's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:37.43 to set a new school record.. Ethan Long placed placed seventh with a time of 1:39.23. In the B-Final, Drew Mintz touched the wall at 1:40.66 to place 11th overall.
In the women's 100-yard breaststroke, Jennifer Jackson was fastest in the B-Final, timing in at 1:05.04 to finish ninth overall.
Jordan Mintz earned a third-place finish in the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 54.69 seconds, and teammate Jonathan Frye placed sixth with a time of 55.78 seconds.
Kayla Smith placed seventh overall in the women's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.53 seconds. In the C-Final, Delaney Willette clocked in at 57.99 seconds to finish 20th overall.
In the men's 100-yard backstroke, Brady Fields finished first overall with a time of 48.23 seconds. Tim Bennett placed fourth with a time of 49.03 seconds, Cullen Fields placed sixth with a time of 49.67 seconds, and John O'Connell placed eighth with a time of 50.72 seconds. In the B-Final, Michael Robinson clocked in at 20.21 to finish tenth overall.
The quartet of Kayla Smith, Jennifer Jackson, Jessi Snover, and Audrey Robinson placed fourth overall in the women's 400-yard medley relay with at time of 3:48.06.
The team of Brady Fields, Jordan Mintz, Cullen Fields, and Seggio Bernardina earned a second-place finish in the men's 400-yard medley relay, clocking in at a GWU record time of 3:14.09.
The 2020 CCSA Championships wrap up tomorrow from the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. Prelims begin at 10:00 am, with the finals starting at 6:00 pm.
