CHARLESTON, S.C. – Gardner-Webb opened the 2020 outdoor women's golf season at the Oyster Shuck Match Play Tournament, dropping all three matches at the Patriot Point Golf Club.
The Runnin' Bulldogs faced off with North Carolina A&T on Monday in the first round, falling 4-1 to the Aggies.
Linnea Hofgren defeated Cheyanne Stewart, 7&5, for Gardner-Webb's lone win in the match.
Gardner-Webb fell in its first consolation round Monday to Appalachian State by a 3-1-1 score. Hofgren again picked up an individual victory for the 'Dogs, knocking off Abby Bolt 4&3.
Gillian O'Brien secured a tie in the No. 4 spot for Gardner-Webb.
In Tuesday's seventh place match, The Citadel topped Gardner-Webb by a very close, 4-3 margin.
The Runnin' Bulldogs picked up wins from
Lindsay Koppel and
Allison Chandler in the match. Kopek took a 5&4 win over Ashlee Richardson in the No. 2 spot and Chandler captured a 4&3 victory in the No. 4 position.
Morehead State advanced to win the team title, with North Carolina A&T the runner up. Appalachian State won the consolation trophy.
Up next for the Gardner-Webb women is the 2020 Low Country Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford College in Hilton Head, S.C., on March 14-15.
