Men's Golf Finishes Ninth In Hilton Head To Open 2020 Spring Season

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Gardner-Webb got its 2020 men's golf spring season underway, finishing ninth at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Tournament.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were part of a talented 16-team field, finishing one stroke in front of Dayton and just two strokes off the pace of Big South Conference foe Winthrop by the end of Tuesday's final round.
Miles Albright, seeded fourth for Gardner-Webb, led the 'Dogs over three rounds – finishing tied for 11th individually. Albright shot a 73 for the opening round, lowered that score to 68 over the second 18 holes and wrapped play with an 80 on Tuesday (221).
Veteran standout Steffen Smith tied for 24th individuals, shooting a 54-hole score of 224 (74-73-77). Zack Byers (76-72-82-230) tied for 53rd, Andy Yank (78-79-75-232) tied for 61st and Jake Scruggs (76-78-88-242) finished 81st.
Augusta won the team title with a three-round score of 878, nipping Davidson College by three strokes. Davidson had co-medalists, with Alex Ross and Brian Garrett each carding 214.
Gardner-Webb is back in action on March 16-17, traveling to the ECU Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C.
