GAFFNEY, S.C. – Gardner-Webb cruised to its third straight match victory on a windy Thursday afternoon after a 6-1 decision at Limestone. This is Gardner-Webb's eighth victory in-a-row over Limestone in the series.
"The wind was difficult for both teams and we toughed out the doubles point again to give us momentum; I was proud of the guys." Head coach
Mike Griffith said after the match, "We're going to have great practices to prepare for the next one on Tuesday."
The day started with Gardner-Webb overcoming a loss in the first doubles match to be completed at the #3 position and securing the doubles point with close wins in the #1 and #2 positions.
In the #3 position,
Jacob Wall and
Stefano Puga lost by a score of 6-2.
Alex Griffiths and
Sebastian Harris won in the #2 position 7-5.
The doubles point came down to the #1 matchup where
Breno Plentz and
Ross Gilbert won 7-5.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were able to win the first three singles matches to be completed to clinch the match victory.
Griffiths' match, in the #4 position, was the first to be completed where he won by a dominating score of 6-1, 6-0.
In the #1 position, Plentz won his match 6-3, 6-3.
The match was clinched in the #6 position by
Connor Enslin where he won by a 6-1, 6-3 decision.
Limestone was able to win its one point on the day from the #2 position where Dovy Sadauskus defeated Gilbert 2-6, 6-3, 10-7.
The next match to be completed was Harris' matchup from #5 where he won by scores of 7-5, 6-1.
The last match of the day to be completed was the #3 singles match where
Victor Putter won a close match 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
This victory puts Gardner-Webb at 5-6 on the season, winning five of their past six matches.
