Runnin’ Bulldogs Wrap Up First Day at Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships

BLACKSBURG, Va. – On Friday afternoon, Gardner-Webb completed their first day of competition in the Big South Track and Field Indoor Championships at the Rector Field House on the campus of Virginia Tech. At the end of competition on day one, the women rank eighth with 4.5 points, and the men rank sixth with 10 points.
Ryan McGuffin currently sits in sixth place after four of seven events in the men's heptathlon with 2,596 points. In the 60-meter dash, he placed fourth with a time of 7.30 seconds, and was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.63 meters. In the shot put, he ranked seventh with a toss of 10.04 meters, and was seventh in the high jump at 1.77 meters.
In the women's shot put, Taliyah Wade took seventh place by hitting a mark of 12.41 meters. Karmen Taylor placed ninth with a distance of 11.61 meters.
Josh Fischer placed third overall in the men's shot put by hitting a personal-best mark of 15.92 meters that ranks fifth in the program's top-ten list. Teammate Clay Hamilton placed eighth by hitting a mark of 14.66 meters, setting a new PR.
Ryan McGuffin placed tenth overall in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.89 meters
In the women's high jump, Khalilah Conway hit a mark of 1.53 meters to place sixth overall in the event.
Alexis Fonville placed 15th overall in the women's 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 9.87 seconds.
Shylee Stocks finished fourth in the women's 400-meter dash prelims with a personal-best time of 57.01 seconds to move on to Saturday's finals. Kelsey Houser placed 16th overall in the event, timing in at 1:94.95.
Chase Thornhill timed in fastest in the men's 400-meter dash prelims, clocking in with a school-record time of 48.17 seconds to advance to Saturday's finals. His time bested that of David Lloyd set back in 2001. Austin Buzzard finished 20th overall with a time of 52.48 seconds, followed by Levi Zimmer in 21st at 55.27 seconds.
In the women's 60-meter dash, Sarianna Miranda-Rosado finished 17th overall with a time of 8.11 seconds.
Mason Marshall finished 18th in the men's 60-meter dash, timing in at 7.16 seconds. Tre Carson followed in 19th with a time of 7.24 seconds.
In the women's 200-meter dash, Sarianna Miranda-Rosado placed 20th, timing in at 27.12 seconds.
In the men's 800-meter run, Patrick Sastre qualified for tomorrow's finals, timing in at 1:56.26. Bogdan Podgaisky finished 22nd overall, clocking in at 2:16.22.
Chase Thornhill timed in second in the men's 200-meter dash prelims at 21.86 seconds to move on to Saturday's finals. Carlos Williams placed 16th overall, clocking in at 22.70 seconds, and Tre Carson placed 21st with a time of 23.83 seconds.
In the women's 4,000-meter relay, the quartet of Faith Parandhamaia, Hannah Sparacio, Taylor Robinson, and Sandra Bolstad, took home an eighth place finish with a time of 13:19.27.
In the men's 4,000-meter Relay, the squad of Matthew Cloninger, Austin Buzzard, Joe Waller, and Mitchell Brown took home sixth place in finals with a finishing time of 11:13.58.
The 2020 Big South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships wrap up tomorrow, with action beginning at 11:00 am.
