Gardner-Webb Earns 6-1 Decision over Radford Saturday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb battled through cold and windy conditions to earn a 6-1 win over Radford in Big South Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.

Gardner-Webb (5-3, 2-0 Big South) took the first match of the day in doubles action, as the duo of Miljana Ristic and Daniela Naupari defeated the Radford (3-3, 1-2 Big South) pairing of Drousile Dzeubou and Tyler Blalock, 6-1, on court one.

GWU sealed the doubles point at the No. 3 spot with the team of Teodora Ristic and Mayumi Saguchi defeating Anastacia Belyaeva and Jeanine Acierto, 6-2.  Doubles play concluded with Radford's Malin Falk and Katey Fruehauf taking a 6-2 decision at No. 2 against Valentine Limauge and Manon Delsol.

At the onset of singles play, the Runnin' Bulldogs got a pair of quick wins after Teodora Ristic defeated Blalock, 6-2, 6-1, at court four and Saguchi defeated Falk, 6-1, 6-3, at court three.

Gardner-Webb clinched the overall match win at the No. 2 position with Naupari defeating Dzeubou in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

The 'Dogs continued to battle, with Delsol outlasting Fruehauf, 6-3, 7-6 (4), at the No. 6 spot, and Limauge rallying from being down 3-0 in the second set to defeat Alexis Cramer, 0-6, 7-5, 10-3, at court five.

Action concluded at the No. 1 position, where Miljana Ristic battled back but fell short against Belyaeva, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3).

"I'm really proud of the effort we put forth today," stated GWU head coach Jim Corn after the match.  "The team was ready to play and fought hard through the cold and windy conditions.  Today was a big hurdle for us, earning a conference win over a quality team.  We played well but will continue to work hard and improve as the season moves forward."

Gardner-Webb returns to action on Tuesday, March 3, hosting North Carolina A&T at 2:00 pm.
