Softball Extends Win Streak to 14 by Topping Furman, 1-0, Sunday

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Andrea Lyon hurled a complete-game shutout and Gardner-Webb moved its win streak to 14 games with a 1-0 win over Furman Sunday afternoon.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (20-3) got the only run needed in the bottom of the first, when Weslyn Almond belted a leadoff home run for an early advantage.

Lyon went to work from there, fanning six Paladins and scattering three hits in a dominant effort in the circle.

Almond paced Gardner-Webb offensively, going 3-for-3 with the key home run. Gardner-Webb collected five hits as a team, with Brooke Perry and Trinity Sterrett also in the hit column.

Gardner-Webb ended the game in style, as Perry stabbed a line drive to first, then doubled off a Paladin base runner to seral the victory.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will hit the road next weekend for tournament action, traveling to the Duke University Softball Tournament March 6-8 in Durham, N.C. The 'Dogs will take on Howard on Friday at Noon in the opening game of the weekend.
