April 16, 2020 | Men's Tennis
Breno Plentz was named to the Big South All-Academic Team for the 2019-2020 season on Thursday afternoon.
Plentz has achieved an impressive 3.68 GPA during his time at Gardner-Webb as an undergraduate while seeking an international business degree.
Following the announcement from the conference, coach Mike Griffith said, "Breno being honored from the conference is very deserving. In all my years, no one works harder than him, both in the classroom and on the courts."
He finished the abbreviated season with a combined nine victories across his singles and doubles matches while making almost all his match appearances on the No. 1 court.
Griffith also stated how he was looking forward to another season with the Brazilian native for the upcoming season. "I am looking forward to Breno returning to continue his education in graduate school along with one more year competing for the Runnin' Bulldogs."
Plentz has collected 29 singles career victories along with winning 27 doubles matches in his career.
The Big South Men's Tennis All-Academic Team consists of one student-athlete from each institution that meets the criteria of having completed at least one academic year at the institution, maintains at least a cumulative 3.0 grade-point average and is of sophomore standing (academically and athletically). The team and Scholar-Athlete of the Year award are selected by the Big South Conference Sports Information Directors. UNC Asheville's Charlie Morkel was named the 2020 Big South Conference Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
