
Trio of Runnin’ Bulldogs Earn Spots on Big South Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field All-Decade Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb men's outdoor track and field had three honorees on the Big South Conference All-Decade Team presented by Hercules Tires, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Carson Sears (Suwanee, Ga.), Jordan Smith (Chesterfield, Va.), and Alex Young (LaVergne, Tenn.) represented Gardner-Webb on a team that features the Big South's top performers from 2010-2019.
A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.
Sears, who competed for the Runnin' Bulldogs from 2011-2015, earned All-Conference honors on four occasions, and was the league's hammer throw champion in 2012 with a mark of 61.24 meters. Sears currently serves as GWU's assistant coach in charge of the throws program.
Smith, who competed for GWU from 2014-2018, was a five-time All-Conference honoree, claiming the discus and hammer throw titles in 2018 with marks of 48.97 meters and 54.88 meters respectively.
Young competed for Gardner-Webb from 2013-2014, earning All-Conference honors on three occasions, and was the league's hammer throw champion in both 2013 and 2014 with respective tosses of 62.09 meters and 59.88 meters.
The 2010-2019 Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-Decade Team is listed below in alphabetical order by event and features eight sprinters/hurdlers, eight distance/mid-distance runners, eight jumpers, eight throwers, two decathletes and one head coach. In case of ties, additional honorees have been added.
