CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 14 North Carolina earned bonus points in seven of ten bouts Sunday afternoon, defeating Gardner-Webb by a 45-0 score inside Woollen Gym.
 
The Tar Heels (1-0) earned wins over Gardner-Webb (0-3) by tech fall in two of the first three matchups, and the No. 1 wrestler in the country at 149 pounds, Austin O' Connor, defeated Jacson Muldrew by fall in 47 seconds.
 
North Carolina would take two more matches by tech fall, one by pin, and one by major decision.  At 184 pounds, Evan Schenk was edged by Chasen Blair, 4-1, and at the heavyweight class, Anthony Perrine surrendered points to Andrew Gunning in the final round to fall by a 6-2 decision.
 
Select extra matches were held at the conclusion of the dual, highlighted by Muldrew pinning Nick Lirette in 1:42 at 149 pounds.
 
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Sunday, January 17, opening Southern Conference action by hosting both Chattanooga and The Citadel.   Action begins at 1:00 pm with The Citadel and Chattanooga squaring off, followed by GWU and Chattanooga at 2:30 pm and The Runnin' Bulldogs vs. The Citadel at 4:00 pm.
