Gardner-Webb Cross Country Opens Spring Season at Charleston Southern Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Gardner-Webb men's and women's cross country teams ran in their season openers on Saturday afternoon. Both teams had fourth-place finishes at the Charleston Southern Invitational.
The day started with the women's 5K and Jennifer Escalera paced the team at 21:36 finishing in 35th and Faith Parandhamaia ending with a 21:39 in 36th. Taylor Robinson came in next for the team at 23:02. At 23:13, freshman Camille Sykes finished at 39th. The next two finishers from the Runnin' Bulldogs were Brooklyn Tretter at 24:06 and Hannah Mitchell at 25:08.
In the men's 8K, Patrick Sastre led the Runnin' Bulldogs with a time of 28:55 finishing 36th. In his first career race, Ethan Bentley finished with a time of 29:57. Joe Waller came in after with a time of 30:54. Matthew Cloninger closed out the race at 32:32. Placing in 40th at 39:03 was Cole Ray.
The next meet for the team will be the Winthrop University Invitational in Rock Hill S.C. on January 29th with a start time of 2:30 p.m.
