BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Gardner-Webb was outscored 25-8 in the third period, dropping an 80-57 decision at Campbell in Big South Conference play Saturday afternoon inside Gore Arena.
Gardner-Webb (5-11, 5-6 Big South) trailed Campbell (11-5, 8-3 Big South) by only a 30-27 margin at the half, but the Camels opened the third period with a 15-2 run to seize control of the contest.
Gardner-Webb made 18-of-63 (28.6 percent) of its attempts from the floor of the day, including a 4-of-25 (16.0 percent) from long distance. Campbell was efficient from the floor, making 24-of-47 (51.1 percent) of its shot selections on the day, including 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) from beyond the arc. The Camels also outpaced the 'Dogs on the boards, 43-to-30.
Lauren Bevis paced the Gardner-Webb offense with 13 points on 3-of-11 shooting, as well as 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
Alasia Smith followed with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting for the day.
The Camels had five scorers in double figures, led by Shy Tuelle with 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 5-of-9 from long distance. Taya Bolden totaled 13 points along with 18 rebounds to record a double-double.
