CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia earned bonus points in seven bouts to go on to take a 44 to -1 decision over Gardner-Webb in dual meet action Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Gym.

Virginia (1-0) got off to a quick start over Gardner-Webb (0-2), winning the first three bouts of the day by major decision, fall, and tech fall respectively.

At 149 pounds, the matchup between Virginia's Denton Spencer and GWU's Jacson Muldrew was tightly contested, with Spencer earning points late in the third period to take an 8-4 decision.

The matchup at the 184-pound weight class between UVA's Michael Battista and GWU's Evan Schenk was another tough battle that was decided in the final moments of the third period, with Battista taking a 7-4 decision.
