Women’s Swimming Splits CCSA Conference Opener Against Bellarmine And UNC Asheville

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's team hit the deck of the Bost Pool for their first home meet of the season on Friday Evening. Today's meet against Bellarmine and UNC Asheville was the first home meet for the Runnin' Bulldogs in 630 days.
 
Gardner-Webb topped Bellarmine by a margin of 124 points, and UNC Asheville bested the 'Dogs by 116 points.
 
The GWU relay squad of Delaney Willette, Abby Surley, Paris Binard and Alyssa Church finished second in the women's 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.86, just .18 seconds behind the UNC Asheville A relay team.
 
In the women's 1,000-yard freestyle, Ellie Eckert took fourth place with a time of 11:05.62 at the wall, teammate Anya MacPhail followed in fifth with a time of 11:18.66.
 
Alyssa Church took fifth in the women's 200-yard free, hitting the wall with a time of 1:58.68, Anna Frye followed in sixth with a time of 1:59.39.
 
As for the women's 100-yard backstroke, Delaney Willette tabbed a second-place finish with a time of 1:00.64, and Mariana Valles took fourth with a time of 1:00.95.
 
Abby Surley landed herself a second-place finish in the women's 100-yard breaststroke with a final time of 1:06.90, teammate Gabby Doss followed in third with a time of 1:08.16.
 
Clara Schlimper touched third at the wall in the women's 200-yard butterfly, clocking in a time of 2:13.20 at the finish.
 
In the women's 50-yard freestyle, Alexandra Haasser finished in fourth overall with a time of 25.44, Eliza Gunson followed in fifth with a time of 25.65 at the wall.
 
Alyssa Church took fourth in the women's 100-yard freestyle, punching in a final time of 54.70 seconds.
 
As for the women's 200-yard backstroke, Delaney Willette cruised to a second-place finish with a time of 2:12.08 at the wall.
 
Abby Surley beat out the competition to take home a big first-place finish for the 'Dogs in the women's 200-yard breaststroke by hitting the wall with a time of 2:27.00. Anna Yeater took third, finishing with a time of 2:28.18.
 
In the women's 50-yard freestyle, Emma Maust took second, clocking into the wall with a time of 5:16.24.
 
As for the women's 400-yard individual medley, Abby Surley took second with a time of 4:40.75 at the finish.
 
Wrapping up the night, the squad of Mariana Valles, Alexandra Haasser, Anna Frye, and Alyssa Church took second in the women's 400-yard freestyle relay, clocking in with a time of 3:42.18.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow (Saturday, October 16th), as the men take on Bellarmine inside the Bost Pool. The meet will start promptly at 10 am.
