Weatherley's Double-Double Not Enough as 'Dogs Fall to High Point on the Road

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Tori Weatherley posted her fourth double-double of the season, but the Gardner-Webb University volleyball team (7-13; 4-6 Big South) was unable to overcome the first-place team in the Big South Conference on Saturday afternoon, as the Runnin' Bulldogs fell in straight sets to High Point (25-16, 25-17, 25-10) inside the Millis Center.

Garrison led Gardner-Webb in kills for the second consecutive night with eight, while Hannah Donaldson and Makena Phillips each added seven apiece. Weatherley registered team-highs in both assists and digs, finishing with 21 and 10, respectively.

The Runnin' Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the first set of play, and a service ace from Audrey Gun later helped the 'Dogs pull to within one at 7-6, but a 9-0 run from High Point extended its lead to double digits before the Panthers finished off the opening frame by a score of 25-16.

Kills from a trio of Runnin' Bulldogs helped GWU hold its own through the early portions of set two, but a 4-0 Panthers run made it a five-point game at 13-8. Back-to-back kills from Donaldson and Garrison once again made it a three-point contest, but the high-powered High Point offense continued to press en route to its 25-17 win to go up 2-0.

High Point, who increased its winning streak to 26 matches in Big South play with a win on Saturday, then capped off its sweep with a dominant 25-10 score in the third and final frame.

Gardner-Webb hit .160 on the afternoon with 27 kills on 94 attempts. High Point countered with .400 hitting and 44 kills on 95 attacks.

The 'Dogs will look to bounce back next weekend with a pair of home games with USC Upstate and UNC Asheville. Action will get underway on Friday, October 29 against the Spartans beginning at 6 p.m.
