DURHAM, N.C. – Gardner-Webb concluded its appearance in the ITA Carolina Regionals at Duke University. The event was highlighted by
Connor Enslin and
Sebastian Harris making an appearance in the doubles quarterfinals.
"It was nice to come to the top tour in our region and be one of the best," said Head Coach
Mike Griffith. "Proud of them as they collected three wins in a row and that included 2 seeded teams and a very good Wofford team."
This GWU pair started the tournament by defeating a seeded duo from Duke 6-1, 6-3. Later that day, Harris and Enslin won in straight sets over a team from Wofford, needing tiebreakers in both to clinch the match. On Sunday morning, the 'Dogs defeated the #3 pair in the tournament of Robin Catry and Damien Salvestre after losing the first set. The score for this match ended 1-6, 7-6(5), {10-3}, putting the Runnin' Bulldogs into the quarterfinals. The team's run was ended by Wake Forest's Siddhant Banthia and Jakob Schnaitter, the #7 seeded team, defeating GWU's pair 6-4, 6-4.
In addition to Harris and Enslin's success,
Chrisjan Van Wyk and
Victor Putter were able to defeat a Wofford pair 6-7(5), 6-2, {10-4}.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were also able to have success in the tournament singles matches. Enslin, Harris, and Putter all had straight-set wins in the opening round of the consolation bracket.
Gardner-Webb will be back in action this weekend for the Furman Invite. After this, the Runnin' Bulldogs will conclude the fall tournament schedule at the UTR Tournament from November 5-7.
