Gardner-Webb Wrestling Opens 2021-2022 Season At Home Thursday Night

BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb wrestling will get its 2021-2022 schedule underway Thursday night, welcoming Division II Belmont Abbey to Paul Porter Arena at 7:00 pm.

The Runnin' Bulldogs return nine total starters from the final 2021 lineup, with Anthony Perrine moving down to his normal 197 weight class after wrestling at 285 last season.

NCAA qualifiers RJ Mosley (165 pounds) and Jha'Quan Anderson (184 pounds) return with sights set on competing for Southern Conference titles and a trio to Detroit, Mich., for the 2022 NCAA Championships.

The veteran lineup helped Gardner-Webb and head coach Daniel Elliott to a 4-4 finish against Southern Conference opponents last regular season and should power the results for an improved 2021-2022 season – despite a very difficult schedule once again.

The lone newcomer expected in the starting lineup, 285-pounder Peyton McComas, won a pair of individual state titles at Grundy (Va.) High. Standing in at a rangy 6-foot-5, McComas is one of the tallest heavyweights to ever suit up for Gardner-Webb.
