BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb Men's Tennis unveiled its 2022 regular-season schedule on Friday. There are 23 matches scheduled for the spring including nine home matches at the Webb Tennis Complex.
Head Coach Mike Griffith said, "We will be challenged early and often at the beginning of our schedule and throughout February. This challenging schedule will help us reach our goal of a conference championship in April."
The team opens the season against Charlotte at Lifetime Indoor in Charlotte on Friday, January 14. The Runnin' Bulldogs play their first home match on Sunday, January 16 facing Kennesaw State. The following day, Gardner-Webb will play at Wake Forest, their lone Power 5 opponent of the year.
GWU will have a three-game homestand following a match at Davidson (1/23) that includes Wofford (1/26), Lenoir-Rhyne (2/1) and Lees-McRae (2/2). The 'Dogs play their next six matches on the road before the start of conference play.
The first Big South match of the year for Gardner-Webb is hosting Hampton on February 27.
After this, the Runnin' Bulldogs have a healthy mix of conference and non-conference contests for March. They open the month with a road trip to S.C. State (3/1) with a home match against Presbyterian next (3/4). GWU then goes to play at Longwood (3/8), at ETSU (3/13) and at Campbell (3/19). The month concludes with Radford coming to Boiling Springs to play GWU.
The first weekend in April features the 'Dogs playing hosts to N.C. A&T (4/2) and UNCW (4/3). The regular season ends with a trip to play UNCA on April 6.
The top six teams in the Big South will qualify for the conference championship. The first-round matches will be held between April 15-16 with the higher seeds for each match as the host. The tournament's semifinals and finals will be held on April 23 and 24 at Marion Diehl Park in Charlotte, N.C.
