BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb claimed their first victory of the season in a tight 4-3 decision over UNC Wilmington on Saturday afternoon.
 
Gardner-Webb claimed the doubles point in addition to winning all three doubles matches. In the #1 flight, Daniela Naupari and Miljana Ristic won 6-2. Manon Delsol and Valentine Limauge won 6-2 in the #2 match to clinch the point. Doubles action ended with Maria Jardim and Elin Hellberg winning 7-6(3) in the #3 position.
 
The Seahawks won the first singles match where Hellberg lost to Charlotte Madson 6-2, 6-1. Delsol and Jardim won a pair of matches to bring the overall score to 3-1. Delsol's match in the #3 flight finished 6-0, 6-4. In the #4 match, Jardim won 6-3, 6-2.
 
In her singles debut, Courtney Fyvie lost 6-4, 6-2 in the #6 match. In the #5 flight, Limauge fell to Sarah Merrill 7-5, 6-4.
 
The overall match came down to the last one of the day, the #1 singles, with the Runnin' Bulldogs' M. Ristic against Celeste Matute. The match took three sets to decide the winner and M. Ristic prevailed 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
 
Next up for the Runnin' Bulldogs is the conference opener with the team playing at home against UNC Asheville with a start of 2:00 p.m.
