CLINTON, S.C. – The Runnin' Bulldogs moved to 3-0 in conference play, finishing the week's action with a road match at Presbyterian. The final score for today's event was 5-2.
"It was a great week, and to go 3-0 in the conference is nice," said Head Coach
Mike Griffith. "This was a tough task, winning at Presbyterian, but I'm super proud of our guys to get the win."
Doubles action turned into a thrilling set of matches as two needed tiebreakers to determine its victors. Gardner-Webb's #2 duo of
Breno Plentz and
Stefano Puga won 7-5, continuing their unbeaten streak in conference play. The #1 match finished first, clinching the doubles point for the Runnin' Bulldogs 7-6(1).
Chrisjan Van Wyk and
Victor Putter played in the match and continued their undefeated record as a pair. The Blue Hose prevailed in a tiebreaker in the #3 position 7-6(2) over
John Spring and
Sebastian Harris.
Presbyterian's Nicholas McKinney won 6-2, 6-2 over Plentz in the #3 flight. The Runnin' Bulldogs responded well to the setback with strong performances in all other singles matches.
Connor Enslin defeated PC's Teo Cariov 6-3, 6-1 in the #4 position. The #6 match concluded next, and Spring triumphed on a 7-5, 6-3 decision. The win marked Spring's third consecutive singles win, all against Big South opponents.
Van Wyk clinched the match with his victory in the #2 flight 6-2, 6-4 over Daniel Stenger. In the #1 position, Max Benson defeated Putter 7-6(5), 7-5, 10-7. Finishing the day's action was Harris who secured the win in the #5 match, remaining undefeated in Big South singles action. The score for the match ended 5-7, 6-3, 12-10.
Today's win marked the first time in program history that the team has won three matches within the same week.
The Runnin' Bulldogs turn their attention to nonconference opponents this week as they will be hosting three matches this week. The week's action starts on Wednesday, March 17 with UNC Greensboro followed by Limestone on Friday, March 19. The week concludes with Davidson traveling to Boiling Springs on Sunday, March 21.
