Spring Earns Big South Conference Freshman of the Week

CHARLOTTE – The Big South Conference named John Spring (Miramar Beach, Florida) the Freshman of the Week for matches played between March 15-21. This is the third time a player from Gardner-Webb was selected as the conference's Freshman of the Week this season.
"So proud of John, with his performances in singles and doubles," said Head Coach Mike Griffith. "He has had a great effort on us, and his success has translated to our success. He hits with a lot of power, as well as anyone in our lineup. This award is really deserving of him."
Spring went 6-0 in matches played this week. On Wednesday, Spring's 7-6(5) victory in the #3 position clinched the doubles point for Gardner-Webb. He won his doubles matches at the #3 flight against Limestone and Davidson on 7-5 decisions to end the week. Spring defeated UNC Greensboro on a 6-3, 6-3 decision in the #6 singles. He clinched the match against Limestone with a 6-3, 6-3 victory, and ended the week with a 5-7, 6-4, 10-1 win over Davidson.
This season, Spring has posted an 8-3 record overall, 7-2 in the #6 flight. He has won his past six singles matches played. In conference play, he has recorded an undefeated record, 3-0. In doubles, he has played all matches in the #3 flight partnered with Sebastian Harris. Spring has put up a 5-2 record and 2-1 in conference play. The duo has been winners of the past three doubles matches played in.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action to play a conference match on Friday at Radford. It is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
