BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb volleyball team dropped a hard-fought four-set matchup to visiting Charleston Southern in Big South Conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon inside Paul Porter Arena.
Gardner-Webb (4-10, 4-10 Big South) controlled the opening set, 25-12, but dropped the next three sets to Charleston Southern (8-4, 8-4 Big South) by scores of 28-26, 25-22, and 25-20.
The Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 49 kills on the day on 159 attempts for a .157 hitting percentage. The Buccaneers collected 51 kills on 153 swings, hitting at a .170 clip.
Gardner-Webb had two attackers in double-digits, led by
Kylee Garrison with 14 kills on 49 swings, followed by
Hannah Donaldson with 13 smashes on 27 attempts, hitting at an efficient .370 rate.
Tori Weatherley led the 'Dogs with 21 assists, followed closely by
Lauryn Rocassin with 20.
Mikah McIntosh posted a team-high 22 digs, while both Donaldson and
Alexandria Roycraft had seven total blocks.
Charleston Southern was led on the attack by Dayana Chara with 17 kills on 52 attempts. Gabby Naniseni followed with 13 kills on 29 swings, while Indigo Young had 10 kills on 25 attempts.
Emma Minnick had a match-high 36 assists for the Bucs, while Ashleigh Holweger had a match-high 23 digs and Young had four total blocks to lead that effort.
Gardner-Webb wraps up the season next week at High Point, opening a two-game series Thursday evening at 6:00 pm.
