5 PRs, 4 Season Bests Set at Big South Conference Championship

WINTHROP, S.C. – Gardner-Webb finished their Spring 2021 Cross Country Season on Friday Afternoon at the Big South Conference Championship. The Runnin' Bulldogs women's team placed sixth and the men placed ninth. There were five new personal bests and four-season bests set by the team at the event.
Gardner-Webb's women's team finished with a score of 165, defeating Longwood (166) and Presbyterian (208). The team average was a season-low 20:35 with a spread of 1:58. The team exceeding their preseason ranking of 10th with the sixth-place finish.
Hannah Mitchell led the way for the women's team, setting a new personal record in the process. She placed 37th overall with a time of 19:53. Amy Prugh came in next at 20:06 in 40th place. In her first race with Gardner-Webb, Ashley Eavenson ran a 20:20 for a finish in 42nd. Completing the race in 45th was Faith Parandhamaia who set a personal best 20:41. Another new personal record was set by Camille Sykes. She finished at 21:51 for 52nd place. Jennifer Escalera was the last of the Runnin' Bulldogs to finish with an impressive 22:39 for 55th.
High Point women's team won the meet and was led by Famke Heinst who became the conference's first four-time women's cross-country champion.
On the men's side, Gardner-Webb had 267 points with a 30:58 average.
Patrick Sastre finished first for the Runnin' Bulldogs with a season-best 28:08 for 55th overall. Ethan Bentley came in next at 60th with a 28:39, a new personal best. In 65th was Joe Waller who ran a 29:40, a season-best. Matthew Cloninger finished the day with a new personal best of 30:23 for 70th. Bogdan Podgaisky completed the race next in 73rd at 37:54, a season-best. Cole Ray finished right behind him with a new season-best at 37:55 for 74th.
Charleston Southern won the men's event and was led by Trevor Dominy.
