Women's Tennis Triumphs Over College of Charleston in Close Sunday Match

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Gardner-Webb prevailed on Sunday afternoon against College of Charleston to put the Runnin' Bulldogs back at .500 on the season. In similar fashion to yesterday's match against conference-foe Charleston Southern, it came down to a tiebreaker in the third set of the last match to determine the winner. All six matches of the 2021 campaign for Gardner-Webb have been on 4-3 decisions.
 
Doubles action started with a loss for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the #3 position where Valentine Limauge and Elin Hellberg lost 6-2. Gardner-Webb's duos in the #1 and #2 flights both won 6-4 decisions to clinch the doubles point. Daniela Naupari and Miljana Ristic played in the #1 flight while Teodora Ristic and Manon Delsol competed in the #2 match.
 
Hellberg lost in the #3 singles match 6-1, 6-1. Courtney Fyvie played in the #6 flight and won 6-3, 6-3. Delsol was defeated in her match at #4 with scores of 6-4, 6-2. The next match to conclude put the Runnin' Bulldogs back in the overall lead at 3-2. The victory came from M. Ristic's match at the #1 flight and it ended 6-4, 7-5. In the three-set match at the #2, College of Charleston's Halli Trinkle beat Naupari 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 to have the winner come down to the #5 position.
 
In the matchup, Limauge won the first set 7-6(6) but got swept in the second 6-0 by Peyton Brotzman. Limauge triumphed in the third set tiebreaker 7-6(4) to clinch the victory for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
 
Gardner-Webb plays Presbyterian at the Webb Tennis Complex for their next match on Wednesday with a start at 2:00 p.m. They play the following day again at home facing Longwood with a scheduled start of 1:00 p.m. Both matches count towards their Big South Conference record.
