March 09, 2021 | Wrestling
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Gardner-Webb earned a pair of at-large selections for the 2021 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, as announced by the NCAA Tuesday afternoon.
RJ Mosley was selected at 165 pounds and Jha'Quan Anderson was chosen at the 184-pount weight class.
Mosley (Oklahoma City, Okla. / Heritage Hall HS) will make his first appearance on the national stage after going 11-4 overall on the season. Against Southern Conference opponents in dual action, the redshirt-sophomore was 7-1, which included a 12-4 major decision win over SoCon champion Andrew Nicholson of Chattanooga.
Anderson (Conyers, Ga. / Rockdale County HS), also making his first appearance at the NCAAs, has posted a 9-2 record on the year. A 2021 SoCon All-Freshman team selection, Anderson was 7-1 in dual action, and he brought home a third-place finish at the 2021 SoCon Championships.
The at-large selections were made by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee using the following selection criteria: head-to-head competition, quality wins (defined as wins against wrestlers already in the field), coaches ranking, results against common opponents, conference tournament placement and winning percentage. The committee was also able to use subjective criteria such as, but not limited to, historical performance.
The seeding and brackets for the 2021 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, taking place in St. Louis, Mo., will be revealed Wednesday evening during the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships Selection Show on NCAA.com at 6:00 pm.
