RADFORD, Va. – The Runnin' Bulldogs dropped its road trip to Radford on a 5-2 decision. The loss puts Gardner-Webb at 2-3 in Big South play this season.
Doubles action started with the Highlanders winning on court #3 by a 7-5 score over
Elin Hellberg and
Maria Jardim. The Highlanders secured the doubles point when Malin Falk and Emily Brandow defeated
Teodora Ristic and
Manon Delsol 7-6(6). The #1 match went unfinished with
Miljana Ristic and
Daniela Naupari leading 6-5.
The Highlanders kept the pressure up by winning the first two singles matches to conclude to extend their overall lead to 3-0. The #3 match finished first with Malk defeating T. Ristic 6-3, 6-3. This was followed by M. Ristic falling in the topflight 3-6, 5-7.
Gardner-Webb clawed back into the match by winning three-set matches on courts 2 and 4. After winning the first set 6-3, Delsol lost the second by the same score but responded with a 6-1 victory in the #4 position for the first 'Dogs point of the day. Naupari defeated Melissa Ifidzhen in the #2 match 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-4. Radford clinched the victory in the #5 match with Katey Fruehauf's victory over Hellberg 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
The day's action ended with the #6 singles. In the match, the Highlanders won the match over Jardim 7-6(6), 6-2.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action on April 13 in the final regular season match of the year as the team looks to cement a spot in the Big South Conference Women's Tennis Championship.
