Women’s Soccer Drops 3-2 Road Decision On Late Goal At UNC Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb Women's Soccer took on the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville on Sunday afternoon at Greenwood Soccer Field. The final score was 3-2, UNC Asheville.
 
Runnin' Bulldogs Women's Soccer ends this season with a 2-6-2 overall record. UNC Asheville's final standings are 2-7 overall this season, today was their second win of the season.
 
Skyler Chillson opened up the scoring for UNC Asheville in the 12th minute, as she managed to find the net after picking up a blocked cross shot. Later on in the 37th minute Emily Duenas scored off of a corner kick, giving UNC Asheville a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
 
Gardner-Webb tried to make a second half comeback, as Makenna Stickler opened up the scoring in the first minute of the second half off of a pass from Aubrie Jackson, closing in on Asheville's lead to make it a 2-1 game. The goal was Sticklers first and only goal of the season.
 
Just five minutes later in the 50th minute, Skyler Chilson knocked one in between the posts for UNC Asheville to make it a 3-1 game. 
 
Maddie Turlington scored her third goal of the season in the 59th minute of match play off of the foot of Moryah Snype. Which helped to close in on UNC Asheville's lead of 3-2.
 
In the 89th minute Chillson scored her third goal of the day which sealed the win for UNC Asheville, forcing Gardner-Webb to take the loss. 
 
UNC Asheville paced the day in shots by taking a total of 19, just four more than Gardner-Webb.
 
In goal for the Runnin' Bulldogs, Abby Atchley made her fourth and final start this season. Atchley had a total of seven saves in the matchup. 
 
Sunday's match was the final match for Gardner-Webb's four seniors; Kylie Ameres, Isabel Eigenbauer, Aubrie Jackson, and Emily Jonas
