Big South Announces 2021 Annual Men's Tennis Awards

CHARLOTTE – The Big South Conference announced the winners of its annual awards for men's tennis on Wednesday afternoon. There were four different players from the Runnin' Bulldogs to receive one of the honors. The players were Victor Putter, Chrisjan Van Wyk, Breno Plentz, and Stefano Puga.
Putter was selected as a member of the First-Team All-Conference Singles Team. Putter finished the regular season at 8-9 in singles matches, going 7-6 in the #1 court. In conference play, he went 2-2. Both of his losses came against players named to the First-Team All-Conference Singles Team.
Van Wyk was named to the Second-Team All-Conference Singles Team. Van Wyk ended conference play with a 3-2 record, all wins coming on the #2 court. He finished the regular season having six singles wins.
The Big South chose Putter and Van Wyk as a First-Team All-Conference Doubles Team. After being paired together, the duo won their first ten matches to be 10-0. They went a perfect 4-0 in conference play helping them solidify their win for this honor.
Gardner-Webb's Puga and Plentz earned a spot on the Second-Team All-Conference Doubles Team. This pair of graduate students went 7-3 in the #2 flight on the season, and finished 3-2 in Big South play, providing key victories in matches all throughout the season.
Putter also earned a spot on the conference's All-Academic Team with a 4.0 GPA while pursing a degree in Mathematics.
