Gardner-Webb Women Finish Third, Advance To Big South Conference Match Play

NINETY SIX, S.C. – Gardner-Webb carded a team score of 297 to move into third place at the end of stroke play at the 2021 Big South Conference Women's Golf Championship.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will now face No. 2 Upstate in the first round of Saturday's match play segment. Campbell (No. 1) will battle High Point (No. 4). The teams tee off beginning at 8:00 am on Saturday.
Graduate student Allison Chandler led Gardner-Webb for the tournament, finishing ninth after carding a final round of 74. She was consistent on Friday, shooting par on 14 holes. She sank a birdie put on No. 6 and was even par after nine holes.
Linnea Hofgren finished 10th despite a tough day Friday. The junior standout shot 70-75-78 over 54 holes and finished one stroke off of Chandler's pace.
Other than first-place Campbell, Gardner-Webb was the only team in the field to place four of its golfers inside the individual top-25.
Dominika Burdova (73-80-72) had a strong effort Friday to move into 16th and Lindsay Koppel (73-78-77) sank a birdie putt on her final hole to finish 23rd. Gillian O'Brien (78-80-74) shot her lowest round of the week on Friday to move inside the top-30 (28th).
Gardner-Webb, which started the day tied for fourth with Winthrop, finished 10 strokes in front of the Eagles by the end of the round. Only the top-4 teams from stroke play advance to match play and a chance at the championship trophy.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were eight strokes behind USC Upstate by the end of Friday's action and moved four strokes past High Point.
