BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb will open their 2021 Big South Women's Tennis Conference Championship tomorrow morning as they face #1 Charleston Southern. The team is seeking its first appearance in the Big South Conference Championship Finals.
Earlier in the season, Gardner-Webb dropped their match against the Buccaneers 4-3 on March 6. The match came down to a tiebreaker in the third set in the final match of the afternoon, the #4 court. The final score for Charleston Southern's triumph on that court was 6-3, 6-7(8), 7-6(5).
In this edition of the matchup for these two teams, we will see the same lineups used for the doubles matches. The Buccaneers won on the #1 and #2 courts while the #3 was left unfinished at a score of 4-4. In singles, every match but the #1 singles will see different pairings for the players. The Gardner-Webb lineup in singles for tomorrow is
Miljana Ristic at #1, Daniela Nuapari in #2,
Teodora Ristic playing #3,
Manon Delsol in #4,
Maria Jardim playing #5, and
Valentine Limauge at #6.
Gardner-Webb is 1-2 in the Big South Championship against Charleston Southern. The 'Dogs defeated the Buccaneers in the quarterfinals in 2011 but have dropped their past two matches against CSU (2014, 2015). This season marked the second time in program history that the Runnin' Bulldogs have appeared in the event's semifinals, the first since 2011.
Tomorrow's match between #1 Charleston Southern and #4 Gardner-Webb is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. The winner between these teams will face the victor of #2 Presbyterian and #3 Radford in the Big South Conference Championship on Sunday at noon.
