Box Score CHARLOTTE – #1 Charleston Southern eliminated #4 Gardner-Webb from the 2021 Women's Tennis Championship on a 4-2-win Sunday morning.
The Buccaneers dominated in the doubles matches, giving themselves the doubles point. They defeated
Elin Hellberg and
Maria Jardim 6-1 in flight #3 and followed that with a 6-2 win over
Teodora Ristic and
Manon Delsol at #2. The match on the #1 court went unfinished with the Bucs on top 4-3 against
Miljana Ristic and
Daniela Naupari.
In singles, five of the six matches saw the winner of the first set, go on to win the second set as well. Gardner-Webb's T. Ristic triumphed 6-0, 6-3 in the #3 flight to tie the score. This was quickly followed by the Bucs' Luiza Fallana defeating Naupari 6-3, 6-0 on the #2 court. Charleston Southern extended their lead to 3-1 in the match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the #5 position over Jardm. M. Ristic cut into the Bucs' lead with her 6-2, 7-5 win in the topflight.
Charleston Southern clinched the win after a 6-3, 7-6 Tiffany Pyritz victory on the #6 court against
Valentine Limauge.
The match at #4 was left unfinished after Delsol responded to a 1-6 loss in the first set with a 7-6 win in the second set.
The loss means the end of the 2021 season for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Charleston Southern will play in the championship match tomorrow against the winner of #2 Presbyterian and #3 Radford.
