HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb volleyball team wrapped up the Spring 2021 season by dropping a three-set decision to Big South Conference champion High Point on Friday afternoon.
Gardner-Webb (4-12, 4-12 Big South) fell to the Panthers (16-0, 16-0 Big South) by scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-13.
The Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 23 kills on 111 attempts, hitting at a .063 clip, while HPU tallied 52 kills on 107 swings, attacking at a .374 rate.
Audrey Gun and
Alexandria Roycraft paced the GWU attack with six kills each.
Kylee Garrison followed with five smashes.
Tori Weatherley led the 'Dogs with 11 assists, followed by
Lauryn Rocassin with eight.
Gun also led Gardner-Webb with 12 digs on the day, while Roycraft was GWU's top blocker with four total blocks throughout the contest.
High Point was led by Annie Sullivan on the attack with 18 kills. Maria Miggins led the Panthers with 21 assists.
Abby Bottomley led HPU with 19 digs, while Gabrielle Idlebird had three total blocks to lead that effort.
High Point will advance to the 2021 NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship due to claiming the Big South Conference regular season crown.
Gardner-Webb finishes the season with four Big South victories, the most league wins for the Runnin' Bulldogs since the 2014 season.
