April 07, 2021 | Men's Tennis
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb will be hosting their Senior Day celebrations at today's tennis match against UNC Asheville. The celebration will honor the fifth-year seniors that played this season as well as the players who graduated in 2020. The event will start at 2:20.
Breno Plentz (Porto Alegre, Brazil) came back to complete his MBA this year. He clinched the deciding point in 2019 for the Runnin' Bulldogs to claim the Big South Conference regular season championship.
Stefano Puga (Truijillo, Peru) has also spent the year playing and completing his MBA. "He has helped bring the 2021 team together and develop is into a contender with maturity, knowledge of the game, and his play," said Head Coach Mike Griffith.
Jacob Wall (Charlotte, N.C.) became a force in doubles matches near the end of his senior year, providing key doubles over Wofford and Hampton. "He brought passion and intensity to the program," said Griffith.
Ross Gilbert (Bath, England) finished his career with 26 singles victories and 25 in doubles. "His unique game style would give many opponents so much trouble with his specialty drop shots and lobs," said Griffith.
Griffith said, "Overall, this group of players helped continue our success from the previous years and set the bar higher than before."
Today's match will take place at the Webb Tennis Complex with a start scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
