Gardner-Webb Track & Field Wraps Up Competition At Virginia Grand Prix

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – On Saturday afternoon, Gardner-Webb Track and Field competed in the Virginia Grand Prix, which was hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.
 
In the women's hammer, Petra Jakeljic placed sixth overall by hitting a season-best mark of 56.43 meters. 
 
As for the men's long jump, Ryan McGuffin took fourth place for Gardner-Webb by hitting a mark of 7.30 meters. This is a personal best for McGuffin in the long jump, and a top two mark in program history as well.
 
Julian Smallwood took sixth place in the men's shot put by hitting a mark of 17.22 meters.
 
In the men's 200 meter, Chase Thornhill placed fifth overall finishing with a season-best time of 21.47 seconds. 
 
Chase Thornhill also placed sixth in the men's 400 meter by clocking a time of 47.55 seconds at the finish.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action on May 11th as they compete in the 2021 Big South Conference Track & Field Championships.
