BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Men's Tennis completed its opening weekend with players competing at events in Limestone and Duke.
The team sent
Connor Enslin,
Chrisjan Van Wyk, and
Sebastian Harris to compete at the Bonk Invite hosted by Duke University. Each player ended the weekend with a victory in singles competition. Van Wyk won his match 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 over Collin Shick of NC State while Harris beat Elon's Ben Zipay 7-5, 7-6(9). Enslin won his match due to a forfeit by the opponent while the score stood at 6-0, 2-0. Harris and Van Wyk competed as a doubles pair and defeated Duke's Kam and Guell 7-6(4).
Competing at Limestone were
John Spring,
Cathal Butler,
Alex Lepine, and
Numa Lemieux-Monette and they collected eight wins at the event, four singles and four doubles. All the teams' singles wins came from matches on Sunday. Spring won his 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 in the #1 flight. Butler won his 6-3, 3-0. Lepine defeated Limestone's Rodrigues and Converse's More each by scores of 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles matches, Spring and Butler took down the top pairs from Limestone and Kennesaw State by 6-2 and 6-0 decisions. The Lepine and Lemieux-Monette duo defeated teams from Limestone and Converse each by 6-4 score lines.
Gardner-Webb will be back on the courts October 1-3 at Davidson.
